The European Ventilation Hygiene Association is pleased to be involved with the EU Commission’s Smart Readiness Indicator scheme.
The scheme is run by the European Smart Buildings Community which aims to reduce European buildings’ energy consumption whilst at the same time promoting comfort, health and well-being. This is an excellent development from earlier this century when energy efficiency and comfort/well-being were almost treated as alternatives, rather than two sides of the same coin – better buildings.
You can read about the Smart Readiness Indicator ‘Focus on Ventilation’ here SRI-Explained-Ventilation-EN
The great thing to note is that EVHA members are involved in three of the four most important SRI Impact Criteria, namely:
- Energy Efficiency
- Comfort
- Health, Well-being & Accessibility
In addition, those members working with cleanliness/pollution/IAQ monitoring systems will be able to add core competencies to ‘raising awareness of building automation and electronic monitoring of technical building systems’
Energy efficiency of systems is promoted by cleanliness of systems, especially by reducing:
- Clogging of air intakes
- Blockage and restriction of components at Air Handling Units (AHU) and Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) units
- Surface roughness/aerodynamic drag, and even cross-sectional restriction, of ductwork
It is axiomatic that dirty systems cannot supply clean air and so systems must be kept clean to ensure Comfort, Health & Well-being
We expect to get further information from the Smart Buildings team and will update as necessary. Meanwhile it would be great if EVHA members could feed in reports of their work on the SRI Impact Criteria, probably focussing on:
- Energy Efficiency
- Comfort
- Health, Well-being & Accessibility
