Fortunately the EU EED is taking onboard the need to ensure that buildings are also healthy, as well as energy efficient, according to a recent progress report.

There can be too much emphasis on energy conservation so that the purpose of a building – to provide safe, healthy shelter – is sometimes forgotten

So, it’s good news that EU bureaucrats are also looking at non-energy factors, especially for building renovation.

We in the ventilation hygiene industry need to make sure that the ductwork systems in buildings are properly clean. There is already EU legislation that says HVAC systems should be ‘clean and kept clean’. There is the standard EN15780 that describes what is clean ductwork and what is dirty

So, why oh why, do we still see supply ductwork like this in refurbished buildings? It actually smells of old dirt, too!
