CNN, and thousands of media outlets around the world, have reported on the latest work published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences which says that dirty air is making us dumber.

The research team showed that verbal and mathematical reasoning skills were significantly impacted by polluted ambient air.

Since we spend almost 90% of our time indoors, the concept arises of buildings as a “citadel” or fortress to protect us from contaminated outside air. This means that the internal air supply system – the HVAC ductwork – must be scrupulously maintained.

Besides careful management of high quality filters, the ducted air distribution system must also be checked and kept clean to ensure occupants are safe, healthy and productive.
